Week of October 28th

Hello everyone,

It is really good to be back. Now that we are into November, all classes will begin focussing on their work towards the Christmas Concert in December. All of the songs have been chosen and we will begin practicing soon.

This week in grade 4, students have been putting the final touches on their summative presentations on instruments which will take place next week. I have attached the summative here for reference.

In grade 5 students were introduced to their Christmas song and we have been over some music theory, notes and terms in preparation for playing in band next week.

Grade 6s have also been putting the final touches on their music histroy summative, a presentation about a specific composer or band. They will present this next week or early the week after. I have also attached the summative here for reference.

Week of March 2nd

Hello everyone, Grade 5 and 6 continued to practice as the band this week. They should continue practicing their instrument over March Break, focusing on excercises 16, 17, and the notes from excercises 19 and 21. If there is time it would be great if students had a chance to watch 'Mary Poppins' in preparation for our work for the Arts Night Performance. Grade 4s continued to practice the ukuele. We can now play the chords C,F,G, Aminor and E minor and were able to play the first verse and chorus of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'. After March break we will begin our preparations for Arts Night. Have a great March Break everyone! Mr. Oliver

Week of January 27th

This week we have been in a differnt classroom because of upper school examinations but have worked on some very interesting things. Grade 4s continue working on writing their own song. They are using technology for this and have also learned about intro, coda and a bridge and are incorporating these things into their compositions. Grade 5s have been continuing to learn about parodies and are in the process of analysing an existing parody. Next week, they will get to work on learning their own parodies! Grade 6s have been emersed in the music of the maritimes and have been learning about the meaning of 'Northwest Passage' and 'I'se the B'y. Have a great weekend! Mr. Oliver
