Week of January 13th

Hello everyone,

Grade 4 this week worked on producing a set of lyrics for a song that they are writing. They learned about rhyming, opposites and association as well as the strcuture of a song, and in groups worked on producing a chorus and two verses. Next week we will learn about melody and harmony. Grade 4s should bring their devices in next week for this.

Grade 5 practiced together as the band. We have been working on excercise 16 'Hot Cross Buns' and learned about rests and playing with different rhythms.

Grade 6 also practiced togehter as the band but also learned how to perform a traditional aboriginal stick game song, as well as beginning the 'Song for the Swimmers'. Next week we will learn about the music of other explorers and learn an aboriginal dance for Song of the Swimmers. I have attached the two songs we have been learning here:

Week of March 2nd

Hello everyone, Grade 5 and 6 continued to practice as the band this week. They should continue practicing their instrument over March Break, focusing on excercises 16, 17, and the notes from excercises 19 and 21. If there is time it would be great if students had a chance to watch 'Mary Poppins' in preparation for our work for the Arts Night Performance. Grade 4s continued to practice the ukuele. We can now play the chords C,F,G, Aminor and E minor and were able to play the first verse and chorus of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'. After March break we will begin our preparations for Arts Night. Have a great March Break everyone! Mr. Oliver
